About this programme
The Innovation Grant (also called Idea Grant) from Kerala Startup Mission provides financial grants to startups in the ideation, design, or proof-of-concept stage. The scheme supports innovators and entrepreneurs developing technology-driven, innovative products with commercial potential. Funding is distributed in milestone-based tranches, with the first instalment typically released upon approval and remaining funds released after progress review and utilisation certification.
A grant is financial support you don’t repay — awarded against eligibility and, usually, agreed milestones or utilisation of funds. The amount and form of support that actually apply to you depend on the programme’s rules and how your application is assessed — they are not fixed for every applicant.
It is aimed at businesses in technology-based innovation · product development. Like most government programmes, it has its own eligibility conditions, documentation and application window, and these terms are revised from time to time. Because of that, it is worth confirming the current eligibility, amount and deadline on the official programme page before you invest time in applying.
How it works
Applicants submit applications through KSUM website. Applications undergo initial screening and shortlisting by officials. Shortlisted applicants present to an Expert Committee for evaluation (assessed on team quality, product innovation, marketing potential, financial viability, and grant utilisation plan). Upon CEO/Chairman approval, applicants submit required documents and sign agreements. Funds are disbursed in milestone-based tranches, typically 50% initially and remainder after progress review and utilisation certificate.
