An SRN (Service Request Number) is the unique tracking code MCA21 generates the moment you submit any form or make any payment — every status update, resubmission notice and refund claim is filed against it. After submission you have 15 days to upload the DSC-affixed signed PDF, then 7 days from that upload to pay the fee (or the due date plus 2 days, whichever is earlier); miss either window and the SRN itself lapses before an examiner even looks at it.
If the RoC examiner does look at it and finds a defect, the status flips to "Required Resubmission" and the clock resets to a fresh window — usually 15 days, stated in the notice email, not a fixed rule you can assume. Get this wrong twice and the SRN goes to NTBR, the transaction never takes legal effect, and the fee already paid is not returned automatically. Since the V2-to-V3 cutover: V2 company e-filing was switched off on 18 June 2025, and the final batch of 38 company forms — including AOC-4, MGT-7 and ADT-1 — moved to V3 web-forms from 14 July 2025. The 15-day DSC-upload and 7-day payment windows described here now govern essentially all company SRNs; before the cutover, some of this logic was form-specific.
What an SRN is and who deals with one
- Every company or LLP filer on MCA V3 gets an SRN the moment a web-form is submitted or a fee is paid — it is the reference number for that specific transaction, not a permanent company identifier like the CIN or LLPIN.
- Straight-Through-Process (STP) forms that are filed clean clear almost instantly with no manual step. Non-STP and flagged "conditional STP" forms route to an RoC examiner, typically within 2–7 working days, and that is where resubmission can enter the picture.
- The same SRN is used to track a fresh filing, a resubmission, a GNL-4 addendum, or a refund claim — always quote it in any correspondence with the RoC.

How resubmission works
- A defect found on review moves the SRN to "Required Resubmission" and triggers an email/dashboard notice stating the deadline — treat that stated date as authoritative rather than assuming a fixed number of days.
- You generally get two chances to resubmit against the same SRN before it is treated as rejected; per-form variance (whether every form type follows exactly two chances) is not documented in one official circular, so confirm on the portal for anything unusual.
- Resubmission does not need a fresh fee — you already paid at first filing. A new fee is only due if the SRN eventually lapses to NTBR and you have to file afresh.
- Resubmit the corrected form fully re-signed with DSC from every required signatory, even if only one attachment or figure changed.
- Pending User Clarification (PUCL) is a different, narrower track from a full "Required Resubmission" — it is closed by filing Form GNL-4 within 15 days of the PUCL flag, referencing the parent SRN, not by re-filing the original form.
What happens if you miss the window — NTBR and refunds
Miss the resubmission deadline, or exhaust both chances, and the SRN is marked NTBR: the underlying registration or filing never takes legal effect, as if it was never filed. The fee already paid is not automatically returned — it has to be claimed separately through the standalone Refund e-Form on the MCA21 portal, referencing the original SRN, within 1,095 days (about 3 years) of the payment date.
The portal computes the exact refund amount after deducting a time-based percentage that grows the longer the claim takes — confirm the current slab on the MCA21 portal before quoting a figure to a client. Refunds are not available for every payment type: stamp duty routed through MCA21, inspection and certified-copy fees, and a set of pure-STP services are typically excluded — check the current exclusion list on the portal, since it has changed as forms moved from V2 to V3.
If the refund form itself is marked for resubmission, you get 30 days to re-file it; a refund form rejected twice on the same transaction cannot be re-filed a third time, so the money is effectively stuck.
Delay-based additional fees (₹100/day for AOC-4/MGT-7, or the 2x–12x slab for other company forms) run from the statutory due date to the date of the eventually successful filing — a resubmission cycle does not pause or reset that clock.
How to resubmit an SRN on MCA V3
- Log in to MCA V3 and open My Applications; find the SRN showing "Required Resubmission" or "Pending User Clarification."
- Open the SRN and read the RoC examiner’s remarks carefully — they specify exactly what needs to change.
- Correct the underlying data or attachment in the same form (do not start a fresh filing).
- Re-affix the DSC of every signatory the form requires, even if their part did not change.
- For a PUCL flag, file Form GNL-4 instead, quoting the parent SRN and attaching whatever the RoC has asked for.
- Submit the correction against the same SRN before the deadline stated in the notice — no fresh fee is payable.
- Track the status again in My Applications; if it comes back "Required Resubmission" a second time, treat the next deadline as final.
