About this programme
The MSME Sustainable (ZED) Certification Scheme is a Government of India initiative under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, launched on 28 April 2022, that certifies MSMEs on Zero Defect Zero Effect (ZED) quality and sustainability parameters at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. It provides a subsidy on the cost of ZED certification, along with additional support for testing/certification, technology upgradation and consultancy/handholding. Micro enterprises get up to 80%, small enterprises up to 60%, and medium enterprises up to 50% subsidy on certification cost, with an extra 10% subsidy for women/SC/ST-owned MSMEs or units in NER/Himalayan/LWE/Island/aspirational districts. The scheme also gives a one-time joining reward of Rs 10,000 to MSMEs that take the ZED Pledge. Benefits are structured as subsidies/grants rather than loans, administered through the zed.msme.gov.in portal. It is run by Office of Development Commissioner - MSME (DC-MSME), with Quality Council of India (QCI) as nodal implementation/certification agency.

How it works
Udyam-registered MSMEs first take the free ZED Pledge on the zed.msme.gov.in portal committing to Zero Defect Zero Effect principles, then undergo assessment and certification at Bronze, Silver or Gold level by empanelled agencies coordinated by QCI, with the government subsidizing the certification cost and providing further support for testing, technology upgradation and consultancy.
