About this programme
The UP Startup Policy 2020 is the state's flagship startup scheme, providing a bundle of direct financial incentives to DPIIT-recognized startups incorporated in Uttar Pradesh. It funds monthly sustenance allowance, prototype development, seed capital/marketing assistance to launch an MVP, patent filing reimbursement, and event participation costs. Startups with women/Transgender/Divyangjan cofounders, or in Purvanchal/Bundelkhand regions, or in priority sectors get an additional 50% top-up on sustenance allowance and seed capital. It is run by Government of Uttar Pradesh (Startup Nodal Agency / StartInUP).
A subsidy reduces a specific cost — typically reimbursed or adjusted after you incur and document the expense, rather than paid upfront. The amount and form of support that actually apply to you depend on the programme’s rules and how your application is assessed — they are not fixed for every applicant.
It is aimed at businesses in pan-sector, priority for rural impact/circular economy/sustainability/renewable energy/climate change and purvanchal/bundelkhand region startups. Like most government programmes, it has its own eligibility conditions, documentation and application window, and these terms are revised from time to time. Because of that, it is worth confirming the current eligibility, amount and deadline on the official programme page before you invest time in applying.
