About this programme

The Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) is a Central Sector Scheme of the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, providing a medium to long-term debt financing facility of Rs 1 lakh crore for investment in post-harvest management infrastructure and community farming assets. It supports projects such as cold storage, warehouses, sorting and grading units, silos, and primary processing centres, along with allied projects like PM-KUSUM-linked renewable energy assets. Under the scheme, loans from banks and financial institutions carry an interest subvention of 3% per annum, capped at Rs 2 crore per project at one location, with loans above this limit still eligible but without subvention on the excess. A Credit Guarantee Coverage is also provided for eligible loans up to Rs 2 crore under CGTMSE/NABARD/CGFMU as applicable. It is run by Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.

An interest subvention lowers the interest you pay on an eligible loan — you borrow as usual, and part of the interest is reimbursed or waived so your effective rate is lower. The amount and form of support that actually apply to you depend on the programme’s rules and how your application is assessed — they are not fixed for every applicant.

It is aimed at businesses in post-harvest agriculture infrastructure and community farming assets. Like most government programmes, it has its own eligibility conditions, documentation and application window, and these terms are revised from time to time. Because of that, it is worth confirming the current eligibility, amount and deadline on the official programme page before you invest time in applying.
